Before I started this blog I was writing for a blog on the Family Worship Center - Algoma Campus website. This is a copy of one of those posts with links to the original blog.

Pandemic or Opportunity

With all the things that we are hearing about the Coronavirus Pandemic now days, Christians are bombarded with questions: Why is God doing this to us? Can’t you just pray and make it better? What should we do about it? Is God abandoning us?

Those of us living today have never been through a problem of this multitude, and we are still trying to figure out how we can calm the seas and navigate through these dangerous and tumultuous waters. Even though it is true that we have never been through something like this before, the church has and God has.

According to James 1:1; "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings."

The first church was scattered abroad because of persecution. I am pretty sure that those that were scattered abroad did not want to be scattered abroad. I am sure that they wanted to stay together, but when this first wave of persecution came along, they were forced to leave.

I think that something very similar is happening today. We are being scattered and forced to look outside the box, we are being forced to be creative, we are being forced to find new ways to stay connected.

Our God is the God that takes these difficulties and turns them into opportunities and it is my hope that you will see these challenges as just that. This is a window that has been opened for the gospel. This is the perfect time to share the gospel. People are looking and are hungry to hear how they can make it through these trying times. We Christians have the answer and we need to share it with those who haven't heard about it yet.

I have heard rumor that they are going to cancel Easter. Not on my watch! You can’t cancel Easter. You may have to close some doors for a while, but you can’t close the empty tomb of Christ.

This is not a time to be afraid. This is a time to listen to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does not have to have a building full of people to minister to us. Let us move forward in faith and open ourselves up to the Spirit and listen. He will talk and guide us through this.

In closing, remember that almost two thousand years ago, Christ was raised from the dead and he will now raise us out of our consternation.
