The Apostle Peter tells us there’s a reason Jesus hasn’t returned yet. He writes, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering . . . not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Our Lord is abundant in patience toward the ungodly.

Personally, I am amazed at God’s patience with us in this generation. The moral slide is grievous even to secular observers. Even if you try to keep a clean conscience, your mind is saturated with reports of the evils happening every day. Some things are so vile as to be incomprehensible: murders in schools, child abuse, militant homosexuality, unspeakable atrocities.

Often our hearts cry out, “Lord, when will there be justice? When will You bring evildoers to judgment?” We wonder why God waits so long to deal with the unspeakable wickedness so rampant today. We picture the scene when evildoers finally kneel before the Lord, facing His holiness.

But Peter says Jesus isn’t focusing on judgment right now, even for the worst of sinners. Rather, our Lord is preoccupied with mercy. He is longsuffering toward the worst of evildoers. And He’s waiting to show mercy to every unrepentant sinner, wooing and pursuing them.

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless” (3:11–14).

We can spend our days preoccupied with signs of the times, in the Middle East, or elsewhere. But God says, “Look to your own heart. Be sure you’re diligent to keep My Word.” Paul adds, “Every one of us shall give an account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12). He then warns us not to judge others, and to be careful not to become a stumbling block to a brother and cause him to fall.

It’s quiet. It’s early. The coffee is hot. The sky is still black. The world is still asleep. The day is coming. In a few moments the day will arrive.

The refuge of the early morning will soon be invaded by decisions to be made for it is now that you must start making choices for your day. What choices are you going to make?

Because of Calvary, you are free to choose. I have some suggestions on what choices you should make.

Choose love…

No occasion justifies hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. Today love God and what God loves. Choose love.

Choose joy…

Invite God to be the God of circumstance. Refuse the temptation to be cynical, it is the tool of the lazy thinker. Refuse to see people as anything less than human beings, created by God. Refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God. Choose joy.

Choose peace…

Live forgiven. Forgive so that you may live. Choose peace.

Choose patience…

Overlook the inconveniences of the world. Instead of cursing the one who takes your place in line, Invite him to do so. Rather than complain that the wait is too long, Thank God for a moment to pray instead of clenching your fists at new challenges, face them with joy and courage. Choose patience.

Choose kindness…

Be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Be kind to the rich for they are afraid. And be kind to the unkind for that is how God has treated you. Choose kindness.

Choose goodness…

Go without a dollar before taking a dishonest one. Be overlooked before you boast. Confess before you accuse. Choose goodness.

Choose faithfulness…

Keep your promises. Your debtors will not regret their trust. Your associates will not question your word. Your spouse will not question your love. And your children will never fear that you will not come home. Choose faithfulness.

Choose gentleness…

Nothing is won by force. Choose to be gentle. If you raise your voice may it be only in praise. If you clench your fist, may it be only in prayer. If you make a demand, may it be only of yourself. Choose gentleness.

Choose self-control…

You are a spiritual being. After this body is dead, your spirit will soar. Refuse to let what will rot, rule the eternal. You will be drunk only by joy. You will be impassioned only by your faith. You will be influenced only by God. You will be taught only by Christ. Choose self-control.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. To these commit your day. If you succeed, give thanks. If you fail, seek His grace. And then, when this day is done, place your head on your pillow and rest.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long~suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22~23

The Coronavirus is effecting our society in many ways. President Trump has extended the Social Distancing guidelines through April 30th. It is a stressful time in our Nation’s history, many of us never lived though the Great Depression or World War II. So for the first time we are experiencing shortages in food, everyday products, restaurant’s being closed, and many of our day to day activities being cancelled.

I think at this time standing on Gods words is our only solid hope.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.Proverbs 3:5-6

God will provide for our needs, I know many of you are hurting right now. Some of you are not working and things are getting tight. Our prayers are with you and we want you to know we think about you every day. You are not alone. You have a family in FWC. I would encourage each of you that are not effected to keep watch over our other members who are effected and support them in this time of need. Also remember we have a great opportunity to still minister by meeting the needs of our friends and neighbors in our community that are hurting.

Ministry efforts never stop and truthfully, is more important today than ever before. Just look at our country at this time and look at who people are turning to for help. It’s not God it’s the government. Remember many years ago someone said “Never let a crisis go to waste.” I do think these are great words at this time. Don’t let this time slip by and not show the love of Christ. Many people at this time are looking for answers and the Government is not the place to look.

This is the time for for all Christians to realize that people are hurting, they are looking for help, assistance, comfort, and peace at a time that seems almost helpless. We know better than that. We know that this is the time to turn to the Lord. This is the time to share our faith.

I realize that with the social distancing that is going on, you can not go out into public and hold a revival, but you can reach out to individuals in the social media. Many people are on the different platforms and are searching for answers to this pandemic not just concerning the Coronavirus, but the isolation that many are feeling; the loneliness; not knowing where to find fellowship; not knowing where to find answers. These people are lost and hurting and you have the ability to reach out to them, comfort them, and share the gospel with them.

I challenge each of you to make an effort to touch people, to change their lives forever. You can help them find peace in this chaotic time. It is what Jesus asked us to do in the Great Commission.

Father God,
I come to you today with thanksgiving because you have given me a calmness during this time of uncertainty. You have supplied with all that I need and I ask that you give me opportunities to share your gospel. I want you to use me as your instrument. I want to be obedient as I surrender myself totally to you. Thank you for using me to do your work. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
